Spinal Rehabilitation

GRPT's highly skilled staff is proficient with evaluation and treatment of disorders of the spine, including spinal stenosis, herniated/protruded discs, muscle strains, osteoarthritis, to name a few. Our therapists employ a McKenzie (mechanical diagnosis and treatment) based evaluation and treatment model to maximize your success and return you to optimal function.

Orthopedics

Our expertise in the treatment of orthopedic injury is based upon a thorough evaluation of your current problem as well as a detailed health history. These components allow us to formulate a rehabilitation program that is tailored specifically to your needs. Based on our findings, we will prescribe any combination of strength training, flexibility, manual techniques, and/or modalities (such as ultrasound, electric stimulation, light therapy, iontophoresis, moist heat, or cold packs). We look forward to working with you and your surgeon to return you to your optimum level of function at home, work, or play.

Geriatric Rehabilitation

Our clinics provide the perfect setting to address the three major components of aging: general deconditioning (decreased strength), reduced cardiovascular function (decreased endurance), and the increased prevalence of skeletal problems such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Our professional staff are experts in restoring strength and endurance, as well as improving gait and balance to prevent (and reduce) the onset of these problems. We look forward to the opportunity to help you achieve your goals, be they restorative or preventative.

Sports Rehabilitation

We understand how important a quick return to activity is to our patients. For that reason, Sport Rehabilitation at GRPT centers on a timely and safe return to athletics, while reducing the risk for recurrence. In order to prescribe a program tailored to your exact needs, our initial focus is on thorough evaluation of your injury. Once an appropriate program is in place, additional emphasis is placed on prevention and a time-table for return to sport. For those looking to their "game" to the next level, performance enhancement through PowerCore Athletics is also available.

PowerCore Athletics

Training sessions at PowerCore Athletics encompass flexibility, strength, speed, agility, and power. Using these focal points, the muscles will learn how to move optimally allowing for the transition to be made from movement specific training to sport specific training. Visit PowerCore Athletic's website for more information.

Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMJ/ TMD)

Research has shown symptom reduction and improved function to be among the favorable outcomes of TMD patients who have undergone formal physical therapy. At Greater Rochester Physical Therapy, we have been successful in reducing the pain and dysfunction associated with these disorders by utilizing a program centered on relaxation training and neuromuscular re-education. Our phased approach first focuses on postural education and restoring the neutral resting position of the head, neck, jaw, and shoulder girdle. Exercise begins with initial efforts focused on retraining temporomandibular joint rotation. Later exercises introduce temporomandibular joint anterior translation by retraining it to occur after rotation is complete. Additional exercises are also utilized to address postural and temporomandibular stabilization as well as the use of manual techniques and modalities for pain/spasm reduction and muscle relaxation.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

GRPT also offers Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) and PreWork Screening (PWS). These tests are performed by licensed physical therapists that have been trained by WorkWell Systems.

An FCE is a comprehensive functional test which measures the maximum safe functional ability of a worker. Theses tests are often done for disability cases or for vocational retraining.

PWS are tests that are performed in order to determine whether an individual is capable of performing a specific job safely.
